The recently commenced “Tamang Heritage Trail” renders a thrilling and completely new experience that flaunts picturesque terrains, tempting snowscapes, mitigating baths in natural hot springs, and dispersed traditional villages. Based between Ganesh Himal and Langtang range, the trail goes across the villages majorly inhabited by Tamang communities that share its borders and culture with Tibet.
Used by ancient traders to trade daily-used commodities such as salt and meat with Tibet, the unbeaten trail now bestows exposure to the total wilderness while exploring the traditional Tamang village that conserves craftsmanship skills, cultures, and the traditions: Unheeded and almost untouched by the outside world.
The 10-days Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking offers you the heart-warming hospitality of the soft-centered natives adorned with their unique colorful dresses. You’ll also witness the artistic skills of the natives that are reflected by the tempting wood carvings in their residential houses. The region also grants the opportunity to run into beautiful landscapes of alpine terrain, flat meadows, and enchanted rhododendron forests.
Additionally, the region also flaunts its wild animals such as leopard, red panda, musk deer, and black bear. The area tends to prove that it’s crimson heaven on earth via revealing the full bloom of the rhododendron flowers during March and April in the immense forest that majorly. Although the forest consists of rhododendron as its chief vegetation, it also exhibits different species of other vegetations, birds, and butterflies.
The trekking trail is established across the region, i.e., traditionally vivid and culturally lavish. The trek commences from Syabrubesi. But before that, we’ll have a sight-seeing tour around the Kathmandu Valley, during which we’ll visit the landmarks enlisted in the UNESCO world heritage list, such as the sacred Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, holy Buddhist shrine of Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Patan Durbar Square.
Resuming the trek, we’ll gently ascend through charming villages, terraced fields, and peaceful valleys, making our way to Gatlang. From here, we’ll trek to Tatopani, where we can enjoy a dip in the hot springs alongside the panoramic mountain vistas.
Afterward, we follow the trail that leads to Nagthali – Thuman. En route, we’ll observe a monastery, a local fort, and the native houses that display the arctic works that make the region pre-eminent. We now trek to Briddim and eventually descend back to Syabrubensi. Subsequently, we now drive back to Kathmandu City.

Warm greetings! Adorned with ample natural as well as cultural grandeur; Nepal welcomes thousands of travel enthusiast who set their foot in this land of Himalayas in order to live their backpacking fantasies. Upon your arrival at Kathmandu Airport, we’ll meet up with each other and you’ll be guided to your hotel in a private vehicle where you are required to check-in. Afterwards, you can relax and freshen up in your hotel room. At evening, you may take pleasure of the evening stroll around the vivid marketplace of Thamel.
Following a healthy breakfast, we’ll set off for a sightseeing tour around the time quaint valley of Kathmandu. Accompanied by a professional tour guide, you’ll explore the renowned landmarks that are remnants of glorious Nepalese history. We’ll first pay a visit to the mighty Pashupatinath. Situated in the banks of holy Bagmati River, the temple of Pashupatinath carries utmost significance in Hindu religion. Within the temple area, you can sense an essence of serenity and spirituality. Thereafter, we’ll drop by the sacred Buddhist shrine of Boudhanath and Swayambhunath. These two colossal stupas are the architectural marvel of the ancient world that functions as the centre of Tibetan Buddhism as well. At last, we’ll end up at Patan Durbar Square. The durbar square complex is the epitome of classical Nepalese design and craftsmanship. You can observe beautiful sculptures of deities at its every corner. Be amazed by the view of astonishing temples and the royal palace adorned with stupendous wood and stone carvings.
This morning, we’ll head to Syabrubesi via a drive on the local bus. This bumpy yet scenic journey renders a window of opportunity to lay your eyes on spectacular Himalayan outlooks and mountainous lifestyle. Foothills and ridgeline vistas accompany us throughout the drive which takes us across the picturesque landscapes embracing hillock, rivers and terraced farmlands. Past the rustic settlements of Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati and Dhunche, we’ll make it to our destination of the day.
With a gentle walk throughout this stretch of trekking trail, we’ll acquire an insight into the custom and traditions of native Tamang communities. You’ll trek past the many local settlements, absorbing the awe-inspiring views of scenic terrains as the trek progresses further. You can also catch the sight of Goljung valley dominated by Ganesh Himal and neighbouring mountain ranges. We’ll now arrive at Goljung. Later on, a short and easy hike leads us to Gatlang (2,238m). Positioned high on a side of a hill, Gatlang is a Tamang settlement amidst the terraced farmlands. Sublime Parvati Kunda and Tamang monastery are the places worth visiting in this village. Get familiar with the locality via an interaction among the good-natured and friendly residents. Moreover, the locally organized cultural show tends to enrich the trekking experience.
Accompanied by the outlook of snow-capped summits of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Massif, we’ll make a descent to Thangbuche. We’ll then pass by Chilime village (1,760m), keep up with the steep trail to teahouses at Cherka and Gonggang (2,230m) and ascend uphill to the Tatopani Village. All thanks to the natural hot springs which has now dried up; the village got its unique name ‘Tatopani’ that translates into hot water. You’ll get a lot more to discover about the ethnic culture and traditional lifestyle of the local Tamang people.
Tie up your shoelaces as we are about to start the longest trek of our entire escapade this very day. We’ll climb our way to Nagthali Village, a renowned meditation site for local Buddhist devotees and priests. Subsequently, we’ll ascend to the top of the Nagthali Danda (3,300m), a high, lush, and open meadow which extends breathtaking mountain vistas. From here, we can take delight in splendid outlooks of Ganesh Himal, Langtang and Sanjen Ranges. We’ll then gradually proceed down to Tamang settlement of Thuman (2,338m). Influenced by Tibetan culture, this lovely traditional village is home to an ancient monastery. Take your time to get acquainted with the delightful countryside.
We’ll continue our trek and move down to the village of Timure via the classical trade route to Tibet; as a matter of fact, Tibet is closer than you anticipate, just three hours’ walk. Thereupon, if time is on our side then we may set forth for a short hike to Rasuwagadhi, a historical place that witnesses war between Nepal and Tibet centuries ago. From this place, we can traverse a bridge and set our foot in but the sensitivity of the border area and presence of police, as well as armed guards, make it impossible to reach there. We have to trek back to Timure from Rasuwagadhi in order to pursue the main trail. We’ll eventually advance through the woodland of rhododendron and stay with the route to Briddim (2,229m). Flaunting Tibet-influenced culture and stone houses roofed with split slate, this Tamang Village bestows plenty of opportunities to perceive their traditional way of life.
Alternatively, we can descend steeply to the Bhote Koshi River and proceed to its other side via suspension bridge then continue to Lingling Village. Afterwards, an uphill hike of 2-3 hours will lead us to Briddim (2,230m).
It is the day eight of our trekking venture and we now negotiate beyond the pine woods to Syabrubesi (1,450m). We’ll descend along the trail, forging ahead across the local settlements, and farmlands. En route, you can take pleasure of the exquisite outlooks comprising surrounding hills and blissful landscapes. Experience the natural and cultural grandeur of Nepal first-hand.
A pleasant drive will take us back to Kathmandu. Initially, we’ll head on a rugged path to Betrawati. Thereafter, we’ll continue on a well-paved that eventually gets wider and better as we get closer to the capital city. Along the way, we’ll come across the fascinating glimpses of pristine villages, sparkling rivers, lush greenery, snow-covered mountains, terraces and hills. Once at Kathmandu, you can utilize your still available time to explore the popular marketplaces of the city and shop the souvenirs for your loved ones.
